A Different Approach to Scripture Study
Where is the love and harmony that should characterize discourse between Christians? God’s word, which ought to unite us, is too often the source of strife and contention.
One reason for this discord is an incomplete understanding of God’s word. We tend to read only those parts of scripture with which we’re familiar, or which seem to support our point of view. Limiting context to localized text can create fragmented doctrine and increase division between Christians.
Over a span of almost 50 years I’ve compiled a database of passages containing everything the scriptures say on a variety of topics. No selection, no filtering, no favorites; just a sky-wide view of everything in God’s word regarding that subject.
This approach places every passage in the context of a totality of scripture. I call it “comprehensive context”.
Whether you’re a newly awakened Christian, an experienced scripture scholar, or a sincere seeker of truth, comprehensive context should be a central principle of your study.
As Jesus said: “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”
Note: Our scripture base includes the King James Version of the Holy Bible, the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price. Though the last three volumes are not included in the canon of most Christian denominations, they will be valuable for members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. If you’re not a Latter-day Saint, the biblical portion of the lists will offer the same clear and consistent message: Studying all of God’s word will bring us closer to the harmony we should seek as followers of Christ.
